Properly cleaning your teeth and gums keeps cavities and infections at bay. That means your teeth will look good, feel good and your smile will sparkle throughout the day.

Why are checkups necessary?

Regular checkups ensure that any dental problems are detected at an early stage, before they worsen. This saves you from incurring unnecessary additional dental expenses.

Your teeth are inextricably linked to the rest of your body and to your immune system. Insufficient oral hygiene has a direct impact on your overall health. Infections in the mouth can result in cardiovascular disease, diabetes or ear, nose and throat issues.

Regular visits to your dentist mean that you are not only taking care of your teeth, but of your entire body and a healthy body makes you feel good.

How many checkups are required per year?

Twice a year is usually sufficient. Arnout & Hobbelink Dentists can give you personalised advice on how often you should come in for a checkup based on your oral health. Naturally, it is entirely up to you how often you decide to have a checkup.

What can I expect during a dental checkup?

  • The dentist will check your teeth for any sign of cavities or decay.

  • If you have regular checkups, gum disease or other dental problems that you may not have noticed yourself can be detected by the dentist at an early stage.

  • Tartar build-up will be removed. Sometimes the dentist will refer you to a dental-hygienist for a complete dental cleaning or teeth-cleaning instructions.

Dental hygienist Amstelveen

Our team consists of several dental hygienists. Therefore, you don’t need a referral for oral hygiene. It’s also not necessary to be a patient in our clinic to book an appointment with the dental hygienist. However, if you are a patient, it’s very easy to book a double appointment, combined with a check-up.

We aim to teach you how to take proper care of your dentition, to keep them as clean as possible. We treat both light gum infections (gingivitis) and more complex gum infections (periodontitis). Furthermore, we remove tartar and staining to make your teeth look healthy and beautiful.

As we strive to make your experience as comfortable as possible, we make use of the EMS Airflow Prophylaxis Master. The combination of warm water and a special soft vibrating tip, will make the cleaning minimally invasive but with maximum results. With special high pressure, any staining gets removed to make your teeth shine again!

This comfortable way of cleaning can help anxious patients to overcome their fear. Of course, we also offer the possibility to use anesthetic for the hygiene treatment. This way, you won’t feel a thing.

  • Experienced dental hygienists

  • No need for a referral

  • Book a separate appointment or combine it with a check-up

  • Intensive, but soft cleaning with the EMS prophy Master

Tip: dental insurance usually covers dental hygienist procedures.

What is the correct way to clean my teeth?

It is best to brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening, just before going to bed. This removes bacteria that would otherwise damage your teeth during the night. Brushing your teeth removes plaque build-up, so be sure to brush every tooth surface that you can reach.

To remove plaque from between teeth (which generally can’t be reached with a toothbrush), use dental floss, toothpicks or interdental brushes. Which of those methods works best for you will depend on the space between your teeth. Arnout & Hobbelink Dentists can give you personalised advice on which methods are most suitable for you.

Are dentist checkups and visits to the dental hygienist covered by my insurance?

Checkups and most dental procedures are fully covered by basic Dutch health insurance policies for anyone under 18. From age 18 and up you can choose to add dental insurance to your basic insurance policy.

This Independer overview offers insight into which procedures each insurance company covers. If you do not have additional dental insurance you will need to pay for checkups and other dental procedures yourself. Your health insurance company should be able to answer any questions you have about this. Click here for more information on payment options.
