Mist u een of meerdere tanden of kiezen? Of voelt uw tandprothese niet prettig aan in uw mond? Een tandimplantaat kan uitkomst bieden. - Tandartsenpraktijk Arnout & Hobbelink - Amsterdam -

Tooth decay, tooth corrosion, untreated gum disease (periodontitis) or an accident can result in the loss of a tooth. If you are missing one or more teeth or your dental prosthesis is uncomfortable, a dental implant can help.

What is an implant?

An implant is an artificial root, fixed to the jaw bone, that feels the same as your other teeth. The jaw bone and surrounding tissue ‘accept’ an implant as if it were a natural tooth.

When is an implant required?

  • If one or more teeth are missing.

  • If a tooth needs to be extracted.

  • If your dentures are loose, painful whilst eating or causing speech problems.

  • If a prosthetic tooth is uncomfortable.

A tooth implant can replace a tooth or be used to fixate dentures. Implants can even be used to replace a full set of teeth.

What should I expect from implant treatment at Arnout & Hobbelink Dentists?

  • APPOINTMENT #1 – Intake

The dentist will assess whether an implant is suitable for you based on an oral exam. If not, other options will be offered. For example, a bridge, removable (partial) denture or a frame. The dentist will take the time to discuss different options. The treatment plan will be explained and the financial costs. If an implant is the best solution, the appointments will be planned.

Prior to the treatment you will receive the information regarding the treatment and possible prescriptions at home.

  • APPOINTMENT #2 – Placement of the implant(s)

Implants are placed operatively under local anaesthetic. After the treatment post treatment pain may occur, for which you will have received a presciption of pain medication to take at home. It is important to keep you teeth clean after the procedure to promote healing. We also advise to refrain from smoking and restrict the intake of alcohol. How long it takes for the implant to affix completely wil vary per person.

  • APPOINTMENT #3 – Manufacturing the crown, bridge or prothesis

The dentist will make a scan or imprint which will be used to manufacture the crown, bridge or prosthetic.

We plan implant treatments using a Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT) scanner. With this modern technology we can make a 3D x-ray of the jaw. This 3D x-ray is used to precisely plan the position of the implant(s). Based on the scan we produce a specific drilling guide which will place the implant accurately in the jaw. This method reduces pain after the treatment and reduces the risk on complications. This is quite logical as the 3D x-ray helps to determine the perfect position of your implant(s) en gives us the opportunity to work less invasive

  • APPOINTMENT #4 – Fixation of the crown, bridge or prothesis

The custom made crown or bridge is placed using a small screw of dental cement. Removable prosthetics are clicked firmly into place on the implant(s). It can be ‘ clicked out’ again to enable cleaning. Hence the term “ click proshesis”.

NOTE: If you are suffering from a very loose prosthesis (for more than a year), it might be that the insurance covers the costs for dental implants. Aks your dentist!

To keep your prosthetic tooth, crown or bridge in optimal condition it is important to take good care of your teeth and gums and to visit your dentist for regular checkups. This will improve the expected lifespan of your implants. Ideally, you should visit your dentist for a checkup twice a year.
